Instead of drawing what’s there, we draw what’s not there. What’s not there is there and what’s there is not. Make sense? These were drawn in marker.
I drew the first pictured clipping as we were supposed to, without sketching the postive space (or pine clipping) first.
For my second try, I drew the pine clipping in pencil first, then colored in the black, then erased the pencil markings. The result was I didn’t cut off as many of my needles (accidentally) and a much fuller looking sprig.
