Gertrude’s tail “grew” on stage so the extra feathers needed to attach easily and quickly. They also were plucked out later, also on stage. The photo above shows the tabs and snaps that attached to the white feathers. These tabs were hidden below the waistband. The photo below shows the large tail tucked into a bag and attahed with snaps beneath the single tail feather. The bag was untied at an opportune time so the tail could “grow.” In the plucking scene, all the actors plucking the tail needed to do was unsnap the feathers and Gertrude was back to her original one feather tail.
