Narnia Movies

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (“Dawn Treader”) is filming according to Walden Media on July 27, 2009. There is a new director, Michael Apted, and the former  director, Andrew Adamson will be one of the three producers. It is set to release in December 2010.

Disney does not appear to be supporting this film. I cannot find an official statement from Walden Media or Disney about this, or I would reference it.

Prince Caspian (“Caspian”) did not fare as well as The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.  According to Box Office Mojo, the opening weekend earnings for Caspian were $55,034,805 compared to $65,556,312 for The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Personally, I was disappointed by Caspian because it was not as magical as the first movie and it veered from the book by adding the first failed battle scene, friction between Caspian and Peter, and a love interest between Caspian and Susan.  I did not purchase Caspian when it came out on DVD.

Are you looking forward to movie The Voyage of the Dawn Treader? Have you read the book? What is your favorite part?

Sunday Night Excitement

I was driving south on Eastern.  At the movie theatre, I was passed by four police cars, which made me think there was something serious going on; after pulling over for 20 more, it was obviously something big.

I approached Eastern and St. Rose, some of the police cars turned right on St. Rose and some continued up Eastern.

I had no idea where they were headed and there was nothing on the news. You would think that such a disturbance would warrant a media response.

I continued home not knowing where the police were headed.

Then there was a helicopter with a searchlight circling. From the place at which I was when I spotted it, I could not tell exactly where they were looking, but it could have been my neighborhood.

I continued home.

The elementary school parking lot was full of officers and police cars. No swat team van, though.

At this point, there was still no media.

Backing up, Saturday evening (the night before) I had a nightmare about someone breaking into my house.

I was a little scared when I saw the neighborhoods across the street from the elementary school, on the east side of the street were blocked off by police cars and caution tape.

My little mind starts over thinking the situation. Was the dream a vision? Should I turn back and go somewhere safe?

The postitives are that it didn’t happen in my neighborhood and the person who caused the ruckus was taken into custody.

The negatives, it seems like there are a lot of “incidents” like this one in Seven Hills, and it’s supposed to be in a “good” part of town.

The media this morning reports very little except there was an armed standoff near Seven Hills and Sunridge Heights. It’s very little coverage for the ruckus it caused.

My New Toy

The iPhone I received as a gift for Christmas is proving to be quite handy. While visiting Miss D in the hospital I used it to look up Tv listings and it made an excellent strecher for Miss D. to transport her Lego block person after he fell off the tower. Not these towers, but he’s in this picture, on the left in the red cap.

Please keep praying for Miss D and T. Best case Miss D. may go home in 2 days. T is under care of hospice.

Lord, you are here and present in the good and bad. While I (we) don’t understand why D and T are ill I know you have a plan. I pray for Miss D. that all will go according to plan and she will be able to go home soon. I pray for strength for T and her family in this time. Lord, you are in control and no case is too hard for you.

Terry Goodkind p. 2

I met Mr. Goodkind on Saturday evening!

He was great and human, imagine that, a human being human. He autographed both the Wizard’s First Rule that I brought and Faith of the Fallen, the book that I’m to in the series. He gave me Faith of the Fallen. I was somewhat scared to ask him for an autograph, but he said he loved when people asked because it was like reliving the first time all over again, or something like that. Did I mention that I was a little star struck? I may have been one of the few people there who actually read his books. I didn’t have my picture taken with him, but PC did since PC helped with the short film.

Mr. Goodkind’s wife was a charming hostess, and I got the impression that they were very much devoted to each other. I loved to see that devotion.

Mr. and Mrs. Goodkind conducted a tour of their home and we were able to see his office, where he writes, I presume. There was a sign posted above the door “No one gets in to see the Wizard. No Way. No How.” On googling the phrase, I believe this may actually be a quote from the Wizard of Oz.

Mr. Goodkind has all the original artwork from his book covers hanging throughout his house. More notable is that Mr. Goodkind is an artist, so there are a number of his own paintings also hanging throughout the house. I knew he was an artist, but forgot until I was looking at the pictures and read his name at the bottom.

All in all, it was an enjoyable evening and I was very honored and privileged to meet a best selling author.

Terry Goodkind

I will be meeting Terry Goodkind at a private party on Saturday.

A month or more ago, PC worked with some friends who were making a movie of part of one of Mr. Goodkind’s books. They filmed at a house in Boulder City. My husband was responsible for decorating the set/house.

Side note for readers who don’t know, PC has a degree in Theatre, and focused mainly on Theatre Tech, which includes things like set building.

PC came home after finishing the set and asked me did I know an author named Terry Goodkind. Well, of course I do, in fact, I started reading his series just before PC was hospitalized, and I was in fact, reading one of the books in the series at that time. I, naturally, wanted to meet Mr. Goodkind, but I was too late and Mr. Goodkind already left Las Vegas. I was bummed.

Incidentally, more side notes, PC asked me if I would help him with the set, but I declined because I was up to my eyeballs in making the Puri-Tea gowns, which you can read about over here. If I planned ahead, and finished the gowns early, I would have helped PC and would have met Mr. Goodkind.

Snap back to the present, the staff and cast who made the movie are all having a party on Saturday, at Mr. Goodkind’s home, and I’m invited since I’m PC’s spouse.

I need to go to the bookstore ASAP and pick up a hardcover version of the book for an autograph.

No, I’m not the least bit star struck. I am, however, excited to meet a published author since I wish to be one myself someday soon.

Change is in the Air

I can’t say too much right now, but at least I can finally say something.

PC will start teaching again on November 17th, two weeks from yesterday. He is not planning to leave his job at the church, but it will change. At this time, that is all I know and all I can share. Stay tuned, more to come.

Let me take a moment to say that I’m very excited about the changes that are coming, and very happy for PC.

It always catches me by surprise when I have a dream or nightmare related to PC’s time in the hospital or heart stopping. Tuesday night to Wednesday morning I dreamed PC was in the hospital and we didn’t know what was wrong with him. (Sounds familiar).  It wasn’t a scary dream while I was having it, but I didn’t like it when I woke up.

PC is fine. His three month follow up was good. The ICD recorded some instances where PC’s heart apparently skipped a beat, but it’s too sensitive and will be readjusted so it won’t step in too much. The ICD not only delivers a shock if the heart stops, but functions as a pacemaker (if necessary) pacing when the heart rate drops too low.

PC decided to start running again. He was in track and cross country in high school and stopped running when he graduated. At first, PC was going to run alone because I’d be much too slow since I never ran (I was a classical dancer), but once he decided he was out of shape and out of practice he decided I could run with him. We have yet to run together, though. I think we’ll find where he’s somewhat out of shape, I’m really out of shape since I was never in shape to run in the first place.

We also talk about trying tennis (for exercise) since we have access to the courts in Seven Hills. They’re outdoor.  I took lessons when I was young and in college, but I’m not good. I have this indescribable fear of flying round things. However, I am overcoming this fear one ball at a time.

Life is good.
